Introduction to Rocks & Minerals!

Introduction to Rocks & Minerals!

Well, we’re rollin’ in 3J right now!  We just did an introduction to our first science unit: Rocks and Minerals.  After a class discussion of what we already knew and wanted to learn about rocks and minerals, students watched an introductory video on the subject.  Finally they showed what they know in their own online … Continue reading

Our 3J Digital Citizenship Super Heroes!

Our 3J Digital Citizenship Super Heroes!

Well, our first day of Grade 3 was FABULOUS!  We got into some of routines right away, and one of our main focuses was reviewing what it means to be a good digital citizen.  Students helped create an anchor chart so that we are always thinking about being safe, responsible and respectful online and with … Continue reading

Gathering, Displaying & Analyzing 3J Data!

Gathering, Displaying & Analyzing 3J Data!

Yesterday was our first kick at the can for our final math unit: Statistics and Probability.  We reviewed the various purposes and importance of gathering, displaying and analyzing information, and then we each came up with a question that we were curious about for our own class.  After our mini-lesson and media to reinforce tally marks … Continue reading

Our 3J Instruments!

Our 3J Instruments!

The 3Js each had a challenge to create an instrument in which the can change the loudness and pitch.  After coming up with possible ideas and thinking about how the volume and frequency could be changed, students made their instruments.  Check out how some of them did!

Showing Increasing Patterns

Showing Increasing Patterns

After reviewing attributes and rules for repeating patterns, the 3Js began exploring increasing patterns.  Today they got to show different ways that they could make increasing patterns using a variety of tools and materials.  Take a look!

Larger the Vibration, Louder the Sound!

Larger the Vibration, Louder the Sound!

The latest science unit the 3Js have started is on Hearing and Sound.  After reviewing that sound is vibration, we did demonstrations to show that smaller vibrations created softer sounds, while larger vibrations created louder sounds.  Check out our lesson today!

3D Solids! Making, Naming and Analyzing

3D Solids! Making, Naming and Analyzing

Our class has been looking carefully at 3D solids in math, recognizing and naming them by using their base shapes, as well as identifying how many faces, vertices and edges they each have.  Today students got a chance to make their own choices of solids using a variety of materials.  Take a look at how … Continue reading

Getting Creative with X & ➗

Getting Creative with X & ➗

Every morning the 3Js have a Morning Math Meeting, and without a doubt we love creating our very own math sentences with a target answer the most.  Over the past week and a bit, our class was formally introduced to multiplication and division, although we’ve been “dabbling” with it all year. Today we continued to show … Continue reading

Towers in the Wind!

Towers in the Wind!

In our “Testing and Building” science unit, students were given a challenge to use what they’ve learned to design and build at tower that was at least 70cm in height.  It not only needed to be stable enough to stand on it’s own, but to stay standing while there was a wind blowing on it. … Continue reading
