Comparing and Sorting Rocks and Minerals!

In science today, students analyzed our collection of rocks very closely using a magnifying glass. They made observations and we discussed ways they thought they could sort their rocks. As a class we came up with some common sorting categories, and each student created their own chart of sorted rocks.  Take a look!

As part of our Rocks and Minerals unit in Science, students have been learning about and exploring examples of the three different types of rocks.  After our mini-lessons, each student showed what they know by completing a chart illustrating 3-4 examples of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

Late Summer Paintings!

Late Summer Paintings!

Some of the 3Js have been DYING to use their new watercolour paint sets.  So today was the day!  Students designed their own “late summer backgrounds” with their watercolours, then used black tempera with a straw to create a bare tree silhouette.  Each one is unique and so pretty!  Way to go, 3Js!!!
