As part of our Mini-Mapping Unit in Social Studies, students discover and learn about symbols that can be used. Today, students moved in small groups around to 4 different maps in the classroom. Their task was to look closely at the maps, decide the purpose of each map, and discuss what the different symbols on each were and what they were representing. After all the groups had visited all of the maps, we looked at them as a group to discussed our “observations”. Finally, students showed what they knew about reading maps and symbols by working together to complete some questions in their booklets. I am always amazed by how much KIDS LOVE MAPS!
