Asking Questions – A Comprehension Strategy

In Language today we began a William Steig Author Study while learning about a new comprehension strategy as well: asking questions.  While Ms.J read Amos & Boris she was thinking aloud about different “whos” and “whys” and “hows” about the story.  After the students identified her strategy as “asking questions”, they thought about why asking questions is a good comprehension strategy.  Each student put their ideas on their whiteboards, then we discussed them.  The 2Js now know why good readers ask questions, and we are going to spend the rest of our time during the William Steig Author Study (and beyond) practicing this strategy!
