Penny Magic – Surface Tension Experiment

We’ve started our Exploring Liquids unit it science class, and we are learning about some of the characteristics of liquids.  We now know that water has a type of “skin” on it that holds drops together until they get too full.  This is called surface tension.  We did an experiment today that had us predict and then test how many drops of water would fit on a penny before the surface tension “broke” and the water overflowed.  We still have to discuss and compare our findings from our experiment during tomorrow’s science class, but here is a slideshow of us during our project today.
