Remembrance Day Assembly

Today Iron Ridge Elementary Campus had our Remembrance Day Assembly.  It was a solemn yet lovely ceremony in which our Grade 2Js participated by reciting the poem “In Flander’s Fields”.

As part of Mr. Wielinga’s opening remarks, he stated:

“This might come as a surprise to some of you — but did you know that freedom isn’t free? Someone had to pay the price for us to have the freedom that we enjoy. There are men and women right here in this room this morning who have helped to pay that price. Some have served in the military and many of them have fought in wars. There are probably some people here this morning who had loved ones who  fought and maybe even gave their lives fighting for our freedom. These are the ones that we honor as we celebrate Remembrance Day.”

Although our Fall Break is now upon us, please take the time this next week and on Remembrance Day to discuss with your family what Mr. W spoke about freedom, its price, and honoring those who helped give it to us.
